New Killybegs Fish Protein Facility.

MKA Planning  note the recent announcement in the media that Killybegs is about to get the world’s largest marine food ingredients plant in a joint venture by Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation (KFO) and the Norwegian Biomarine Science Technology (BST).

The new facility proposes to extract high end proteins, oils and calcium from fish for use as food ingredients and supplements.

MKA Planning  successfully represented Objector’s in objecting to the proposal for a similar facility for the production of fish protein at Derry Port by Killybegs  Fishermen’s Organisation and Welcon of Norway which was withdrawn due to a failure by the Applicant’s to overcome the  significant legal and environmental concerns over the proposal and the submission of an inadequate environmental impact assessment of the project. The Derry Port planning application was DOE Ref. No.   A/2006/0672/F.

The new Killybeg’s proposal looks similar in many ways to the previous proposal in Derry and involves at least one of the same Applicant’s.

MKA Planning hope that this new development has considered and addressed the environmental impacts of this proposed facility in a much more comprehensive fashion than in the previous proposal.

MKA Planning await the submission of the planning application and environmental impact assessment to assess the environmental aspects of this proposal to determine whether our Clients will object to the current proposal.
