The NAP has refused a proposal for a relocation from premises at Thomas Street, Portadown to relocate to the recently constructed Health Centre at Clonavon Avenue. MKA Planning represented a number of existing town centre pharmacies including Gordons and Boot’s chemist.
It was considered that the application would have an appreciable effect on existing contractors, namely Boots. The proposal relocation would involve ‘leapfrogging’ over Boots from a second in line position from the health centre to first in line.
One would have though that the advantages of a pharmacy close to the entrance of the health centre within easy walking distance would have been desirable and awarded favourable consideration by the Panel. However, the Panel was not convinced on the evidence submitted that relocation was considered desirable in order to secure adequate provision of pharmaceutical services in the neighbourhood.
